ESCA (XPS) Test of First Contact Polymers

ESCA (XPS) Data Comparing Strip Coatings1

"ESCA data .... showed that only (First Contact) didn't leave a residue. In fact, (First Contact) actually removed some of the carbon contamination originally present on the Si and glass surfaces. Integrated area calculations clearly show that as much as four (4) monolayers were removed2."

The figure on the left above shows the XSP spectra of the carbon 1s line for the experiment with First Contact strip coat on glass. The "Original Sample" spectra line peaks at ~15 counts, the "Coated Sample" line peaks at ~38 counts, and the "Coating Removed" line peaks at ~10 counts. This shows the surface was much cleaner after polymer removal

The figure on the right above shows XPS spectra of the carbon 1s line for the experiment with First Contact strip coat on Si (silicon). The "Original Sample" spectra line peaks at ~10 counts, the "Coated Sample" line peaks at ~40 counts, and the "Coating Removed" line peaks at ~6 counts. Again, this shows the surface was much cleaner after polymer removal
